Peaceful protest against hunting
NEWARK town councillor Laurence Goff will lead a peaceful protest when the South Notts Hunt visits the town on Monday.
Hunting enthusiasts will turn out at Newark Town Hall, after accepting the invitation of the Town Mayor of Newark, Councillor Tony Roberts, to hold their New Year meet in the town.
Riders and hounds will gather at the Cattle Market car park before making their way into the Market Place, arriving at around 11.25am. They will be greeted by the Mayor and share a traditional stirrup cup before heading out into the countryside.
Councillor Goff is inviting people to support his demonstration against the hunt and calls to have the Hunting Act repealed.
He said: "Showing the scale of public opposition to hunting is vital. It is worth bearing in mind that the vast majority of the public support the ban."
