A PEACE conference being held at Nottingham University will debate whether modern conflicts are the result of a capitalist system.

Among the confirmed speakers will be Milan Rai, editor of Peace News; Dr Matthew Rendall, lecturer in Politics and International Relations; Dr Srila Roy, lecturer in School of Sociology; and Steve Yemm, from the think-tank Compass.

Amnesty International and Campaign Against the Arms Trade will also have representatives, as well as local anti-arms group Shut Down Heckler and Koch.

Issues on the agenda include: Why is there so much fighting, destruction and suffering on our planet? Is modern warfare really 'human nature'? and How are conflicts related to economics and geopolitics?

There will be talks, interactive workshops, discussions, panel debates, films and food.

It takes place at the Portland Building from 10am to 7pm on Saturday May 9. Entry is free.
