Patel must cement his England spot
SAMIT Patel has to do more to cement his place in the England one-day team according to his director of cricket at Notts, Mick Newell.
Patel played in the Test series victory out in India and the one-day matches and while he had some decent knocks, Newell feels he has to do more to make himself undroppable.
Newell said: "Samit still needs to do more. I would say the one-day games in India have not made him any better off or any worse off. He is in that squad now and what he needs to do is establish himself and make himself undroppable. At the moment, he is not doing that.
"I think in the Test games in England, it will be hard for him to get a chance because England have a set routine with their selection when playing in this country so unless he scores an awful lot of runs to push his way up to number six, it will be hard to get in.

"But the chance is there in the one-day games if they play a specialist spinner and an all-rounder who can bowl spin as well.
"He just has to make himself undroppable when that chance comes."
