DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault which left a 42-year-old man with head injuries believe his attackers had been at a party which had been organised for members of Nottingham's African community.

The victim was hit with a glass bottle after being set upon by three men inside the Rainbow Pub, in Carlton Road, Sneinton, at around 2am on Sunday.

It is understood the incident occurred at the end of a party at the pub, which had been organised for Nottingham's African community.

The victim, who is originally from Zimbabwe, was found with head injuries outside the pub and witnesses have said the three offenders ran up Carlton Road.

Emergency Services took the man to the Queen's Medical Centre where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police need the public's help to identify the offenders.

One was black, in his mid-20s, 6ft, of slim build, with dreadlocks. He was wearing a dark coat and a woolly hat.

Another man was Asian, 5ft 4in, of slim build with shaved hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and dark jacket. He had a medical plaster on the right side of his face.

The third offender was black, 5ft 4in tall, in his mid-20s, slim build and wearing dark clothing.

Detective Inspector Leigh Sanders said: "The offenders and victim had been at a busy party, so I am sure there will be many people from the African community who will know their identity.

"It is also likely the attackers fled the scene either covered in blood or wearing blood-stained clothes, so would have caused alarm to anyone they ran passed or live with.

"This kind of violent attack will not be tolerated by the police, nor society, so I would anyone with information to call the police immediately."
