Nigel, 40, said: "I was just in the lounge when I heard this 'boom boom boom' as if someone was knocking on the door. You could tell it was something serious by how loud the knocking on the door was.
"There weren't any real flames to speak of, but the smoke was billowing out."
Sandra, 40, added: "The fire crews were fantastic in how quickly they got here – I mean, I know we aren't that far away from Stockhill, but they were quick in coming to the rescue.
"It was quite dramatic really. The woman at the house needed us to ring the fire brigade because her phone was in her handbag and she didn't want to go back into the house."
The woman, believed to be in her 20s, was the only person in the house at the time of the fire.
Both she and her next-door neighbour were treated by ambulance crews at the scene.
