AN encouraging debut shut-out for goaltender Davis Parley against a plucky Peterborough Phantoms saw Nottingham Panthers close their pre-season with a solid 5-0 victory last night.

A short-handed goal from Marc Levers set them on their way with the others coming from Bruce Richardson, Matthew Myers (short-handed), man of the match David Clarke (power-play) and Brendan Cook, with the best of the game.

Afterwards, coach Corey Neilson paid tribute to the English Premier Division team, who never let the visitors settle.

He said: "They are well-organised and gave us an excellent work-out ahead our opening league weekend."

Big defenceman Rumun Ndur was missing with a slight temperature while sniper Johan Molin rested a strain.

Both should be fit for Saturday's trip to Newcastle and the home game with Hull the next night.
