Panthers are champions - at long last
GENERAL manager Gary Moran today paid tribute to the thousands of people who have played a part in Nottingham Panthers finally fulfilling their dream of winning a league title.
There were jubilant scenes on and off the ice at the Odyssey Arena as Panthers defeated main rivals Belfast Giants 5-3 to seal the Elite League championship.
Although they have won trophies galore since reforming in 1980, it is Panthers first league title since the side, led by the legendary Chick Zamick, lifted the trophy in 1956.
"It's a very proud night for every one connected with the club," said Moran. "We have a great bunch of players and they deserve every accolade going.

"But it's not just down to the players and coaches Corey Neilson and Rick Strachan; not just our great sponsors, or the fans in the stands . . . it is an achievement that has been contributed to by anybody and everybody who has had anything to do with Panthers over the years."
The trophy has been handed over to Moran by Belfast, last season's winners, but will be officially presented to captain Jordan Fox on Friday in the Cardiff home game.
