BRIAN Laws was upset about suffering his first defeat as a manager on the ground where he enjoyed the most successful spell of his playing career.

But the Sheffield Wednesday boss insisted that his side deserved more from the match, despite playing the entire second half with ten men following a red card for Francis Jeffers.

"I am not happy to have lost. I thought we would win this game and I wanted to win it, not just because of the Forest connection," he said.

"Billy (Davies) has got them going, they are on a good run. I am not saying they are playing particularly well but, when luck goes your way, you get wins.

"I am disappointed, I felt we deserved something out the game. It is always difficult when you go down to ten men but, in the first half, I thought we controlled the game.

"They had one shot on target which got them a goal. But we controlled things for long periods, we used the ball well, we looked confident and we looked dangerous."

Laws felt the red card shown to Jeffers, for a lunging tackle on Joe Heath, was harsh. "The sending off was always going to be a talking point," he said. "It was the fastest I saw the referee move during the game.

"He says it was a red card. Fran Jeffers does not have a nasty bone in his body. But he slid in with his foot slightly raised and we have to accept the decision. We won't appeal because every time we do appeal we get an extra match ban."

After Jeffers went off, Wednesday retained a two-man strike force and could have taken the lead again early in the second period.

Laws added: "I thought, during the first 20 minutes of the second half, that it was tough to tell who had the ten men.''
