Title chasers Notts reached 54-1 at lunch after bowling Surrey out for 267 on the second morning of their County Championship clash at the Oval.

The visitors lost Will Jefferson (5) with just 15 on the board, as he edged Stuart Meaker behind and former Notts man Usman Afzaal took the catch after the ball deflected to him off the wicket-keeper.

But Bilal Shafayat (25 not out) and Mark Wagh (14 not out) steadied the ship with an unbroken second wicket stand of 39.

Earlier, Notts had quickly wrapped up the Surrey innings as just 14 runs were added to the overnight score of 253-8.

First to go with the score on 259 was Murtaza Hussain (11), held by Shafayat to give Mark Ealham his second wicket if the innings.

Shoaib Akhtar followed after he was struck on the head by an Andre Adams bouncer before stumbling into his stumps.

It gave the New Zealand bowler more excellent figures of 4-40 off 23.3 overs.
