NOTTINGHAMSHIRE'S trio of stars – Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom – keep their place in the England squad for the tour to the United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh next month.

But Alastair Cook will take over from Andrew Strauss as England captain. Strauss is rested, along with seamer James Anderson who will have his troublesome right knee injury assessed.

Paul Collingwood will lead the side in two Twenty20 games preceeding the tour.

Collingwood's team play their Twenty20 matches in Dubai against Pakistan on 19 and 20 February and the squad then flies on to Bangladesh the following day.

They play three one-day internationals between February 28 and March 5 and two Tests begin in Mirpur on March 12 and Chittagong on the 20th.

Yorkshire pace bowler Ajmal Shahzad, Kent off-spinner James Tredwell and Hampshire batsman Michael Carberry form a trio of uncapped players included.

It is expected Anderson will be fully fit for the World Twenty20 in the West Indies in late April, while Strauss is being given time off in view of a 2010-2011 winter featuring an Ashes tour followed by a World Cup in the subcontinent.

Strauss had a poor series with the bat in South Africa, averaging only 24.28 with a best score of 54 in the four Tests.

Fast bowler Anderson, who took 12 wickets in the five Ashes Tests, improved with 16 in the four matches in South Africa – but has been troubled by a sore knee for some time and will embark on what the England hierarchy term 'a specialist review and a programme of rehabilitation.'

There had been suggestions more players might be rested, but head of selectors Geoff Miller believes it is important to keep the squad together following their 1-1 Test series draw in South Africa.

"We want to try to keep this unit together as much as possible," said Miller.

"One or two of the batters didn't perform as they'd like to have performed in South Africa.

"But there are lots of other reasons.

"Andrew Strauss has provided outstanding leadership for the team in both forms of the game over the past 12 months and the selectors feel it is important that he takes a break ahead of an extremely busy programme.

"Our decision to appoint Alastair Cook to the Test vice captaincy last year clearly demonstrated the belief that he has the potential to be a future England captain.

"Alastair will now have an opportunity to develop his leadership skills still further by leading the side in both forms of cricket in Bangladesh and I know that he is excited by the challenge and looking forward to working closely with Andy Flower.

"Paul Collingwood had an excellent tour of South Africa in all forms of cricket.

"He will continue to lead the side in the T20 format with the two T20 Internationals against the current World champions Pakistan providing excellent preparation for us ahead of the World T20."
