Notts already staring down the barrel against Yorkshire
NOTTS are already in danger of losing their penultimate County Championship clash of the season to title rivals Yorkshire inside two days.
The hosts were shot out for just 59 in 33.2 overs – their lowest four-day total for 22 years – and Yorkshire have already careered along to 129-3 in their first innings, a lead of 70.
Resuming after lunch on 47-6, Notts lasted just a further 23 deliveries.
First to go four balls in was Steven Mullaney who was trapped lbw by Oliver Hannon-Dalby for a duck.
Mark Wagh (22) went in the next over as he steered an Ajmal Shahzad delivery into Jacques Rudolph's hands at first slip.
It was 52-9 when Andre Adams (3) cut Shahzad (4-21) straight to Adam Lyth at point before Darren Pattinson was last to go as Hannon-Dalby (4-18) collected his fourth wicket.
Although batting conditions were difficult, Yorkshire made a much better job of it.
They raced to 30 without loss before Rudolph (10) cut to Ali Brown in the gully in Adams' first over.
The New Zealander struck again to remove Adam Lyth (19), who gave Adam Voges a simple slip catch.
Yorkshire moved into the lead before Anthony McGrath (10) was third out as he pushed Paul Franks into Adams' hands.
But that was as good as it go for Notts as Andrew Gale (61 not out) and Jonathan Bairstow (24 not out) put on an unbeaten 69 for the fourth wicket in the lead up to tea.
Gale reached his half century from just 48 balls and struck eight fours. Bairstow had a let-off when he was shelled by Alex Hales at first slip on 17 off Pattinson.
With 32 overs still to bowl, Notts are likely to be facing a huge deficit by the close unless something changes dramatically.

“Yet another poor batting display by Notts , nobody prepared or able to grind out an innings .Looks like the wheels have come off for Notts .Poor display against Warks in the CB40 , and champ form has been poor last 6 games .Gifted the Lancs game otherwise we would allready be dead and buried .”
