Notts release Shafayat and Wood
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE batsmen Bilal Shafayat and Matt Wood will not be offered new deals.
Shafayat has spent the past three seasons at Notts, his home county, after returning from a spell at Northants.
He made his Nottinghamshire debut in 2001 but averaged 11.80 in six LV= County Championship matches in 2010.
"The decision not to offer new terms to Bilal was a very difficult one because he has a long association with the club and his attitude and approach has always been exemplary," said director of cricket Mick Newell.
"Matt joined us with a brief to score runs at the top of the order but he hasn't been able to do that with any consistency," said Newell.
Newell hopes that players within the squad will take advantage of first team chances.
Notts are understood to be close to agreeing a contract extension with veteran batsman Ali Brown. Seamer Charlie Shreck could well be on his way out with Somerset and Durham thought to be leading the chase for his services.
Notts are also believed to be in early talks with Gloucestershire seamer Steve Kirkby.
