A NINE-YEAR-OLD Carlton pupil was second in a national anti-racism competition.

Cory Higgins, of Carlton Central Junior School, was one of the winners in the Notts County Council Show Racism the Red Card competition.

He was then entered into the national competition and won second place.

Cory was one of a number of pupils from schools across the city and county who met former and current football players who spoke about their experiences of racism at an event at the City Ground.

"The county council is very proud of the achievements of Nottinghamshire students in highlighting the Show Racism the Red Card message through their artwork," said organiser Sarah Lee.
