NOTTS County are set to call in the police to probe former owners Munto Finance.

The Swiss-based Middle Eastern consortium was in control at Meadow Lane between July and December last year.

The Magpies' new owner Ray Trew claims they never invested a penny into the club – but took cash out of it.

After having a team of accountants go through Notts' books following his own takeover this month, Trew told the Evening Post he hoped the police will be at Meadow Lane next week.

He said: "One day next week we will be calling them in.

"I have to be careful because I don't want to prejudice the police investigation, but we believe there are certainly activities which have gone on here that warrant the police being called in."

Trew said he does not know the identity of the people behind Munto.

Mr Trew announced yesterday that the Magpies would not have to go into administration, despite debts of £6.7m.

The club is due in the High Court today over a winding-up petition, but say they have struck a deal to pay off their creditors.

“Is Keith Haslam a friend/associate of the new Notts chairman? He has been spotted down at Mardy Lane recently. Hope he remembers that you can't drink and drive...

And by the way, when will Notts start living within their means? If they hadn't got their violins out and used the "we are oldest club in the universe" excuse years ago, they would be out of business by now and the Lane could be better used to grow your own spuds!”

“Graham, the sums mentioned were for this winding up order, not the whole of Notts debts. Notts now have to go to all the other creditors (the rest of the 6m+ debt) and get their agreentment not to take out further winding up orders.

Regarding the Forest situation, if ND didn't put interest on the loans then they would be donations and Forest would have to pay tax on them. It's up to him how / when and how much of the loan is repaid.”

“Now we know what we know I certainly think something's up with Munto.

Trembling is said to have put half a million of his own money in!”
