A WATNALL woman and her 14-year-old daughter had to be rescued from a valley in the Peak District.

The 38-year-old and teenager were in a party of seven descending into Lathkill Dale on Bank Holiday Monday when the woman slipped and fell on to the girl.

The woman injured both ankles and her daughter injured her knee.

Both were rescued by Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams and taken to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

Neil Carruthers, Buxton team leader, said: "This party was descending wet limestone at the top of the dale, which can be treacherous.

"Having two casualties, meant we called on our colleagues in the Edale Team to assist us with the evacuations."

Mr Carruthers said the team was currently fundraising to buy a third set of kit to be kept at its headquarters so that it can ensure an immediate response to incidents.

Small child saved ravine of death
A ten year old boy was today rescued by four emergency vehicles and a helicopter after slipping on a paving slab and plunging his arm up to the wrist into a perilous puddle of water. The young lad spent 5 hours with his hand in the pool before being rescued by the Fire Service who were called out by a worried passer-by. "It could have been a lot worse", said Fire Chief Walter Pickles, "The boy has severe pruning of the hand and the water also appeared to contain small amounts of dirt. I'm sure he's learnt his lesson and won't do it again"
The youngster who has not been named, is thought to be recovering at home with a Beanio comic and a bottle of Lucozade.”
