Notts let Somerset off the hook
AN eighth wicket stand of 90 between Peter Trego and Andy Caddick frustrated Notts on the second morning of their table-topping County Championship clash with Somerset, as the visitors fought back strongly.
They were bowled out just before lunch for 252 – slightly above the first innings average at Trent Bridge this season of 234.

When Charlie Shreck struck in his first over of the morning to dismiss Alfonso Thomas lbw to make it 151-8, it seemed as if Notts may roll over their opponents cheaply.
But Trego decided to take the attack to the Notts bowlers and together with sensible batting from Caddick, they upped the run rate significantly..
The home side did not help their own cause with some less than intelligent short-pitched bowling.
He punished anything short with savage pulls and cuts and also played some striking drives through the offside.
It was only when spinner Graeme Swann was introduced that the partnership was finally broken.
Trego seemed destined for his first century of the season until he attempted to swat Swann over the mid-wicket boundary but was caught close to the rope by Mark Wagh. His stylish knock of 86 came from 108 balls with 11 fours.
But Caddick (35 not out) was not in the least bit deterred and took Somerset past 250 to earn the visitors a second batting point.
Swann soon brought the innings to an end when he bowled Charl Willoughby for a duck,
But having had Somerset at 82-6 yesterday, Notts would have been disappointed to let Somerset off the hook.
Notts saw out the two overs possible before lunch with no problems to stand on 3-0.
