Notts collapse in dramatic fashion against Yorkshire
NOTTS suffered a disastrous first morning in their penultimate County Championship game of the season against Yorkshire.
Chasing the win that would all but clinch their first Division One title since 2005, they slumped to 47-6 at lunch on a green seaming wicket.
Put in to bat by the visitors, Notts were immediately in trouble as Ajmal Shahzad struck with the last ball of the first over of the day.
Paul Franks chased a wide one and was taken for a duck by Jonathan Bairstow at slip.
It was soon 4-2 Alex Hales (3) followed a Shazhad away swinger and was brilliantly held at fourth slip by Adil Rashid.
Things went from bad to worse when two more wickets fell with the score on 18.
First Adam Voges (8) had his off stump disturbed by a brilliant away swinger from teenage County Championship debutant Moin Ashraf.
Samit Patel quickly followed for a duck as he was adjudged to have nicked another snorting Ashraf delivery to keeper Gerard Brophy, though there was some doubt he hit it.
Ali Brown and Mark Wagh (20 not out) set about trying to recover the Notts innings and held Yorkshire at bay for a while.
But as lunch approached Brown (16) was trapped lbw by Oliver Hannon-Dalby, who then prised out skipper Chris Read for a duck as he edged behind.

“It was undoubtably a good toss to win, but in the end we were well beaten, after a superb example of "proper" cricket between well matched teams. Notts have to play much better against Lancs. but are well capable.”
