NOTTS' County Championship title hopes where hit when today's third day of their match with closest rivals Somerset was washed out at Trent Bridge.

The home side had hoped to resume their second innings, which stood on 46-2 overnight, in reply to the West Country side's 252 all out.

But persistent rain means the covers stayed firmly in place. With more rain forecast, it is possible no further play will take place in the match.

And with Somerset having a game in hand over Notts, the draw suits the away side.
