FIVE Notts Scouts have been honoured by The Prince of Wales and Chief Scout Bear Grylls for gaining their Queen's Scout Awards.

The award is the highest honour in Scouting, for outstanding personal achievement.

Richard Woodcock, 18, of Woodthorpe, Katie Bow, 19, of Flintham, Ian Johnson, 19, of Carlton, Philip Clarke, 19, of Radcliffe-on-Trent and Stephen Hessey, 25, of Beeston attended the event at Windsor Castle on April 25.

They have completed challenges including service to the community, an expedition in wild country, a five-day residential project and learning a skill or developing a talent.

Ian said: "Gaining my Queen's Scout Award has been awesome. One of the best things I have done in Scouting was having a real adventure completing my expedition.

"I hiked 80km over four days in Snowdonia. I have also been volunteering in a youth group."
