Former Notts MP Nick Palmer finds job at animal campaigning group
FORMER Broxtowe MP Nick Palmer has found a job at a campaign group aiming to end experiments on animals.
He has joined the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection as director of international and corporate affairs.
Dr Palmer lost his seat by 389 votes to Conservative Anna Soubry in May's election.
In June he signed on at the Jobcentre in Nottingham to keep his National Insurance contributions continuous and to find out what it was like.
He said his new part-time job, which he starts today, would involve building links with like-minded groups.
He said: "This is particularly important in the EU, since experiment policy is largely driven by EU directives.
"It's important to find allies in countries less traditionally associated with animal welfare, to promote the arguments for alternatives."
A speaker of six languages, he plans to top up his income by doing translation work.

“Six languages? The man is a shoo in for a part time job on the fish counter at the new Tesco in Beeston. I can just see him in his apron and cap now. Maybe he could organise split shifts with 'Sensible'?”

“"A speaker of six languages" - is that why they call him Doctor Doliitle then? Maybe he could try to get a job for his 'Oppo' old baldy 'Sensible' to keep him from poluting the EP message boards day in day out.”
