Notts County's future could be secured today, as takeover deal nears completion
THE future of Notts County could finally be secured today, with a consortium of Midlands-based entrepreneurs on the verge of completing a takeover of the club.
The group is believed to have been put together by Sukhi Ghuman, founder of Nottingham company Octavian Security – one of the club's main sponsors.
Their first priority must be to pay off the club's current debts of more than £2m and fend off the threat of a winding up petition.
It is understood that final negotiations are being concluded today, with a deal hoped to be concluded by this evening.
The scale of investment is undisclosed at this stage.
The group were spotted locked in talks with Sven-Goran Eriksson and other Notts County officials late into Sunday night at the George Hotel in Stamford.
It is believed that these talks were chaired by local multi-millionaire Anthony Barney, owner and founder of Lifestyle Living Group – a national residential and holiday park business, Ghuman of Octavian and Kavita Oberoi – a successful entrepreneur, as well as three further individuals.
The conglomerate of local business people hope to conclude matters imminently.
Peter Trembling, Notts' executive chairman, would not confirm any deal.
"I am not prepared to comment, I cannot confirm that any deal is imminent," he said.
