KEITH Curle is in 'dreamland' after Notts County sent out the strongest statement yet this season that they can win promotion, thrashing League One leaders Charlton 4-2 at The Valley.

On-loan striker Jonathan Forte scored a first-half hat-trick after midfielder Alan Judge had fired the Magpies ahead with a stunning goal.

It is the first time Notts have beaten one of the division's big boys during this campaign and they now face two more of their rivals for promotion, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United, at Meadow Lane.

Curle was bursting with pride and said: "You need to be brave to go to a place like Charlton and express yourself and the players did that. They have got to take all of the credit.

"It was a great strike from Alan Judge that set us on our way. Every time he shoots I think he's going to score and Jonathan Forte is a player brimming with confidence. He knows he is going to score goals.

"The first 45 minutes was dreamland. It's so pleasing to see the players with a smile and with so much belief."

Curle said his players also showed strong character in the second half after Charlton scored two early goals.

"The stadium was rocking when they scored, but we showed a lot of character after that," he added.

"It would have been easy to take a step back and defend inside our 18-yard box and wait to be picked off, but we didn't. We were still brave.

"I thought the defence did superbly, as they have done in every game we have played. They have dealt with a lot of problems that have been thrown their way.

"Goalscorers always get the credit and rightly so, but our defenders deserve a lot too.

"Hopefully we can recreate this level of performance game in, game out. The fans can be proud of their players because not only did they show grit and determination, they showed their ability."

Notts have chosen not to extend the loan of striker Cristian Montano from West Ham.
