Notts County Council says residents' parking permits in Lady Bay and West Bridgford will not go ahead
NOTTS County Council has revealed it will not introduce resident parking permits in West Bridgford and Lady Bay.
The council is currently looking at about 50 areas across the county, where residents have previously requested permits, to decide if schemes should be introduced.
Notts County Council said it asked people who live in the Lady Bay and Edward Road areas whether they wanted resident parking permits last year and 60 per cent said yes.
However, the recent and second consultation showed an overwhelming majority are against the plans. In the Edward Road area 168 people were against the plans compared to 19 supporting plans with five neutral residents.
In Lady Bay, 127 were against the permits, nine people supported the plans and three people were neutral.
The permits would have cost £25 per year.
Rushcliffe borough councillor Richard Mallender, of Lady Bay, said: "I'm delighted that it's not going ahead, I think the people of Lady Bay have made their feelings quite clear to the county and nobody wanted to be seen as a cash cow for the county as some people saw it.
"I'm happy that they're listening to the people and it's not going ahead.
"All you're doing is paying for a permit to park, it doesn't guarantee you a space."
But a spokeswoman for Notts County Council said that the £25 permit fee did not entirely cover the costs of the scheme. The County Council would also have to pay out for rolling out the programme.
She said: "We carried out consultation because residents had asked for the parking schemes in these areas but clearly, as the results show, they are now not wanted. We have no intention of forcing them on people."

“It's strange that only those who have a right wing agenda get hounded by these traffic wardens. The rest of us who don't really care that much one way or the other manage to go through our entire lives without ever getting a ticket for one of these supposed minor infringements. How do you suppose the traffic wardens know whom to pick on?”

“Doug,
You may not realise it but you have been done a big favour. The parking problems occur on less than 10% of days but if you have a residents parking scheme you will have wardens round 100% of the days and you would be amazed with the range of transgressions they can find. Wheel turned at an angle, permit not displayed properly, permit out of date, too many visitors at the same time, too far from the kerb, bumper over the white line trying to sort parking for workmen at your house. Residents would be checked EVERY day irrespective of amount of parking. Be very sure it is what you really want.”

“having lived in Lady Bay for more years than I can remember, this is a very bad move, the car parking on match days is horrendous”
