Notts give Andrade chance to rebuild career
JORGE Andrade could be a key player for Notts County, said new boss Hans Backe today.
The 31-year-old former Porto, Deportivo La Coruna and Juventus central defender is training with the Magpies in a bid to resurrect his career.
It was feared his career was over when he was released by Juventus in April, after two seasons out with two serious knee injuries.
But Backe is willing to give him a chance to prove his fitness in the next couple of weeks.
He said: "Jorge is training with us.
"Of course, he is a very experienced player but he hasn't played for at least 24 months with the knee injury he had.
"We have to wait and see and give him a fair chance to show us what he can do."
Andrade has been capped 51 times by Portugal and played in the 2002 World Cup and the final of Euro 2004 with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo when Portugal lost to Greece.
"His CV is excellent and he can play central midfield too," added Backe.
"When you have been away for so long and haven't played games it's not easy to be back at his age.
"But if he gets his fitness back and there is no problem with his knee he can be a very important player, that's for sure.
"He's a very good character as well."
Backe, however, has not enquired about transfer-listed Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood.
The Swede will make changes for the Magpies' FA Cup first round tie against Bradford City at Meadow Lane tonight.
He will be forced into at least two, with centre-back Graeme Lee and Lee Hughes both out with ankle injuries.
Keeper Kasper Schmeichel also has a slight knee problem.
But Backe is promising to field a strong team.
"We will take it seriously, that's for sure. We want a good Cup run for ourselves, our fans and our sponsors," he added.
"I have to see some new faces, I have to take the opportunity to see some of the other players so there will be changes."

“Mickydooflop. I went down tonight to support the Mighty Pies, could you remind me of the score. Paul remind me again Notts haven't the resouces to rotate the squad. I thought we had SEVEN changes in tonights team to the one that played on Saturday. But you two plonkers are only sad Florist fans living in the past that are green with envy with with the money that the Mighty Pies have now. We were thinking of buying the City ground, flattening it to use as a training ground but found out it's far to small for our needs. Do you know when Florist are going to pay back the money that they owe to the Council Tax payers of Nottinghamshire for all these years. I hear that doughboy is getting worried that he won't get back the £60 million Florist are in the red. It may well place them in administration so at least he gets back some of his money when they have to sell their £6 million strike force. They may get about two pound fivety for the lot although if they do Macgoldrick would come under the banner of buy one get one free.”

“Forest have certainly had there fair share of post war success. Unfortunately for them it has not been against County.
League games played: 33.
County victories: 13.
Forest victories: 11.
Drawn games: 9.
We may have not won League Championships and European cups but we can have a little chuckle when we read these stats.”

“Who is exactly saying we are punching above our weight?
We know we're a 4th division team, but there is nothing wrong with a bit of ambition, get over it reds. You know we have much more to look forward to than your expensive championship flops struggling to mount a promotion challenge. That's why your constantly on here trying to pretend you don't care; when in fact you're doing exactly the opposite by commenting on another evening post none-story. YOU PIES”
