NOTTS County Council will increase the amount it pays to private-sector care homes by more than four times the rate of inflation.

The rate will go up by 11.6 per cent from April, meaning that the authority will spend £6.8 million on external health providers in 2013/14.

The council said the fees were set in consultation with care home providers and their representative organisation the Nottinghamshire Care Association.

It said a review of the fee structure has included a two-stage consultation to find out the cost of providing residential and nursing care.
