A man from Hyson Green has been banned from every shop in the City Centre after convictions for theft.

Winston Churchill, 48, of St Pauls Avenue in Hyson Green has a history of shoplifting offences and in 2012 received eight separate convictions.

During December 2012 and January 2013, Churchill stole items of clothing from Millets Camping & Outdoor Clothing Store on Exchange Walk and on two occasions from the Hugo Boss Store, Bridlesmith Gate. Items taken were high value shirts and a ladies' coat. Churchill went on to hide the coat in another store nearby in order to avoid being caught, after arousing the suspicions of staff.

When staff from Millets questioned Churchill, he became abusive and left. On inspecting the rail close to where he was stood, staff discovered an item of clothing was missing and three security tags had been cut off the garment and placed in the pocket of another coat on display.

Churchill was later arrested and admitted to the theft. Upon his arrest, police also found a pair of pliers used to remove the security tags from stolen items.

On February 8 2013 at Nottingham Magistrates Court, Churchill was convicted of three counts of theft and was sentenced to a 33 week prison sentence.

Along with the custodial sentence, Churchill was also handed a two year Criminal Anti Social Behaviour Order (CRASBO) which bans him from entering into any shop or retail outlet within Nottingham City Centre until June 30 2015.

Cllr Alex Norris, Portfolio Holder for Community Protection said: This individual has a history of shoplifting offences and this order is necessary to protect the livelihood of these businesses and their staff. The details of the order will be circulated to all the City’s shops, so any breaches can be dealt with swiftly.”
