Nottingham student given enforcement notice over print business
A NOTTINGHAM student has been ordered to stop running a print business from his home.
Nottingham City Council issued an enforcement notice against Print-in-Lenton, run by architecture student Marcus Dare from a house in Harrington Drive, Lenton.
The council said it had received a complaint from a competitor about the business in October 2009 and that Mr Dare did not have permission to use the house commercially.
Officials received another complaint in February and were told tenants were leaving the house at the end of June.
The authority said it would take action if the business was not gone by then but on a visit last month found the business still running and a poster adverting it still in place.
After the meeting Mr Dare, 21, said he would now be leaving the house by August.
He said: "I'm a sole trader. I pay my taxes and national insurance. I'm not aware that they visited me at the end of June and I've not had any missed calls from them."
He said his customers were mainly students. He believed complaints had been made because he offered cheaper prices. He added: "We're trying to get a proper shop."

“Stupid Labour hates entrepreneurs. It gives people the freedom they so despise.”

“So, rather than p*ssing his loan up the wall, this student actually comes up with a viable business venture, but gets slapped with idotic rules and regs by the council? Typical Labour.
Providing the 'business' isn't causing any problems for neighbours, then I don't see the problem with this at all. Leave the guy alone to sell a few prints and help pay for his education!”
