Nottingham go for seventh heaven
NOTTINGHAM Rugby are chasing their seventh straight win when they entertain Bedford Blues at Meadow Lane on Sunday (3pm).
The Green and Whites lie second in the table, just three points clear of the Blues, who are in fourth place.
The Green and Whites director of rugby Glenn Delaney has this week been trying to keep his patched-up squad together after they were hit by a series of injuries.
"We have a lot of guys out injured at the moment, which is a bit annoying," said Delaney.
Ian Nimmo has broken his leg, Matt Parr has a broken arm, Andrew Savage has hamstring problems, David Jackson is suffering from a bang on the neck, Charlie Haytor has had a shoulder operation and Jack Cobden has been ill.
"It's not been good. Our back division is going to be a bit under-resourced and I'm looking at what I can do," said Delaney.
"Parr has had to have plate put in his arm but we have more problems in the backs than we have in the forwards. The forwards will be OK."
Delaney is also missing the dual-registered players from Leicester.
"We will have to try to deal with it," said Delaney. "I'm on the phone trying to see who's about.
"It should be a good game on Sunday and it would be fantastic to win seven in a row. I'm very upbeat about the game.
"Injuries will happen. But sickness and injuries are out of our control.
"As long as we stay in charge of what we are in control. then there's no point in worrying about it."
Nottingham launch a new community initiative before the clash against the Bedford for eight to 16 year-olds.
Community and education manager John Widdowson has set up Super Sundays, in partnership with South Notts College, to help young players improve.
The day will comprise of a coaching clinic and then the players will be shown round Meadow Lane.
Widdowson said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for kids to gain really good coaching and then enjoy the match-day experience at Meadow Lane.
"Not only will they be coached before the game but they will also be able to meet some of the players as a part of their day to make it a bit more special.
"It's open to school groups, clubs or individuals who want to try a Nottingham game in a different and more hands-on way."
Places are limited and are restricted to players aged between eight-16 as there will be elements of contact in some clinics.
This new initiative is priced at just £20 per child, which includes entry for them and one adult to the match.
