MATERNITY units at Nottingham's hospitals are to benefit from a £179,872 Government funding boost.

The grant is part of more than £25m being given to hospitals nationwide to help improve services for new mums.

Nottingham University Hospitals Trust plans to use its share to help with its Happy Birth Days project, which aims to help support men while their partners are in labour.

The money will go towards providing more recliner chairs for fathers who stay overnight to support their partners.

More birthing pools will also be provided for women to use.

The trust said creating a less clinical environment for women and their partners will support relaxation and improve the overall experience of the birthing process.
