Nottingham Post

YOUR Nottingham Post is kindling a flame among digital newspaper subscribers.

The Post is among the most popular newspapers used on the device that's revolutionising reading.

The Kindle, the handheld e-book reader that allows users to browse, buy and read books and periodicals, offers several hundred newspapers through Amazon.co.uk

And readers want the Post.

It has been in the Kindle top 50 for nearly 500 days. In recent weeks it has reached the mid-20s, reaching 24 last week, one place ahead of the Los Angeles Times.

The Post easily outpaces every other provincial British newspaper – only a handful of national papers and the London Evening Standard are more popular.

Kindle parent company Amazon closely guards exact sales figures, while Kindle's newspaper popularity rankings change hour-by-hour, but the Post has steadily climbed the rankings.

Amazon.co.uk customers can review products on the website, and the Post has drawn rave reviews.

One reviewer, "Sean," wrote: "Having tried out a few of the national papers, imagine my surprise that the best formatted for the kindle, and by far the best value was my 'local' paper, the Nottingham Post!

"Beautifully laid out, properly formatted, and not trying to look like a regular paper squashed on the Kindle's A5-ish-sized screen, articles are of a good depth, properly linked, with a good section list to find things fast and aid browsing to stories that interest you, rather than having to click next, next, next, or zoom in and out of a silly virtual page.

"The articles cover national and local (as well as a smattering of international) affairs and are well written.

"Photos are appropriate to the stories.

"Surprised, certainly, but very impressed. They can show the big papers a thing or two."

In addition to being a convenient way for readers to access the Post, the Kindle has also proved useful for expats or others with an interest in Nottingham.

Linda Cannon, of Tampa, Florida, USA, found the Post while scrolling through British newspapers. "I got my two free weeks and kept it a little longer," she explained.

"When it was coming up to the Royal wedding I stopped the Post for a while and got the London papers during that time. Cancelled those after my two free weeks. But for $5.99 a month I got the Post.

"I am just drawn to the Post, it is such an easy download, inexpensive, and I do truly enjoy reading your articles."

For Amazon, newspapers such as the Post are a key part of tempting more people to the Kindle.

"There are currently 170 national and international newspapers available to Amazon.co.uk customers and we are continually looking to expand our selection," said Sophie Poderoso, a spokesperson for Amazon.

"We want to provide our customers with the best selection of content and newspaper subscriptions are an important part of this."

All Kindle newspapers start with a free 14-day trial. Then the reader must subscribe, after which the Post is delivered to their Kindle each morning.

"Kindle offers a great reading experience for newspapers and your subscriptions follow you everywhere, no matter where you are travelling," Ms Poderoso added.

You can download the Nottingham Post Kindle edition from Amazon's Kindle Store here.

“You need to change the link to Amazon UK. At present the cost is listed at $5.99 per month.”
