Nottingham IBC lose semi-final
NOTTINGHAM IBC lost in the semi-final of the Egham Trophy final, beaten 85-73 by Desborough Maidenhead at Wellingborough.
Desborough went into a 13-shot lead after two ends across the board and maintained that lead to five ends, where they led 30-16. Phil Dickens' rink led 7-5, while the other three trailed (Broughton 6-4, Robinson 10-0 and Morley 9-5).
They extended the lead after ten ends by 33 shots (52-29). With 15 ends on the board, Nottingham had made some inroads into the deficit, but still trailed by 22 shots (68-46).
Phil Broughton's rink had started their run of fine form and led 19-11, but they were Nottingham's only leading rink. At one stage they reduced the deficit lead to only eight shots, but by the 18th end Desborough led by 19 shots. Dickens (17-12), Robinson (19-6) and Morley (21-9) were still trailing.
Broughton's rink, which had won eight consecutive ends and picked up 25 shots (including a seven on the 16th end), led 31-11 but the other three rinks still trailed (Dickens 20-13, Robinson 22-8 and Morley 27-9).
Desborough closed out the game well to run out winners by 12 shots.
