Nottingham Forest owner Nigel Doughty was found dead in the gym at his Lincolnshire home on Saturday afternoon.
An inquest into his death was opened at the Cathedral Centre, in Lincoln today.
During the brief hearing, coroner’s officer Colin Allerston said: “At about noon on February 4, Nigel Doughty was at premises in Park Lane. He informed family members he was going to the gym area in the annex.
“He appeared fit and well and no concerns for his welfare were raised. Just before 1.15pm he was found by family members collapsed and lifeless.
“Police in attendance reported no suspicious circumstances. He appeared to have suffered a natural event, collapsed and was subsequently confirmed dead.”
The inquest heard Mr Doughty was confirmed dead at 1.59pm despite efforts by emergency services to resuscitate him.
A post-mortem examination has been unable to determine the cause of death and the pathologist is awaiting further test samples.
Coroner Stuart Fisher adjourned the inquest for a date to be fixed.

“Four days on and there's still a sense of disbelief reading this. It's still not time to try to score points - Nigel's fans against those who spoke out against him - instead let's applaud the humanity of all those who have spoken generously about him this week. Almost all of us can be abusive at times - I know I can - and the same lesson applies across the board.”

“I went to the CG this morning to put a message of condolence in the book. After writing my brief message of tribute to Nigel Doughty I sat in the boardroom set out with pictures of him by the books on the table and I thought what a waste of life his passing was.He always seemed such a nice gentleman who never had a bad word to say to or about anyone and I suspect he died of a broken heart brought about by all the agro he received from the mindless few so called Forest fans during the last six months, after all the true support he had given to the club by keeping it afloat during his tenure. My thoughts are with his young family and I wish them well at this sad time.R.I.P. NIGEL and god bless you.”

“If a post mortem has been unable to find the cause of Nigel's death how can it be termed as death by natural causes? Surely for a man as young and presumably fit as Nigel to die so suddenly is totally unnatural. The out pouring of grief since his untimely death has been remarkable and totally refutes suggestions that he was unpopular in our City. All Forest fans owe a great debt to Nigel Doughty which can now only be made posthumously. People who protested against ND in a reasoned and dignified way have nothing to apologise for but I would like to see all those who verbally abused him on these pages offer an apology to his family using this same forum to do so. You know who you are now lets hear your words of regret in using this message board for the negative abuse of Nigel Doughty. If you are not prepared to do that one decent thing then please just leave these pages for good and allow us true reds to remember the man for the modest and generous person he was. Nigel Doughty RIP.”

“somethings put football into perspective don't they - a lot of people thought it was the most important thing in the world to get ND out of Forest, for whatever reason - just shows actually how trivial that is compared to L.I.F.E”

“It is desperately, desperately sad. I wish Mr D was able to see some of the outpouring of grief and tributes in his honour.
If any good can come out of this, I hope some fans of NFFC take this as a point to end the bile and come together in common support of the club. In the same way that some of the personal attacks on Nigel Doughty were hideous, Mark Arthur is not a monster and Steve Cotterill doesn't deserve some of the personal abuse he is subjected to on these forums. I am not saying we shouldn't criticise - but remember these are real people with real feelings who, at the end of the day, want what they think is best for NFFC.”
