And sources close to the player, who sees his current deal expire in the summer, say he is keen to put pen to paper.
It is understood the club's first offer fell short of what Blackstock was hoping for.

“Well if it happens it will be great news. I honestly hope Dexter stays around for a few more years at Nottingham Forest. However we should not forget that football is a business and the vast majority of the players don't have any affiliation with any team they play for. They are the workers doing a job which they are being paid for. Just like most of us we go to work because we have a family to feed and a mortgage to pay so do the players. It is refreshing to hear players like Chris Cohen and Blackstock wanting to stay around. This shows loyalty which the majority of players these days don't have. So well done Dex if the information is correct.”

“Great news for both parties
Dex wants to stay and his love for the Mighty Reds is evident both on and off the pitch.
Forest have managed to keep a good player on their terms (sound business sense).
Hopefully the other players nearing the end of their contracts will follow Dex's lead and be open to negotiation.”

“Its good to hear that we are close to signing one of the players that has shown a great attitude towards our club and is not there for a pay check, if anyone deserves a new contract its Dex, sign up Raddy and clear out the rest.
Where are the wingers and one stella signing that has been promised if we are serious about getting into the playoffs we need the players in.”
