BILLY Davies could find himself with a defensive headache ahead of tomorrow's visit of Ipswich to the City Ground.

Danny Collins had to be substituted during the 1-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday with blurred vision following an awkward fall following an aerial challenge with Jermaine Johnson, making him a doubt for tomorrow.

Greg Halford sits out the second match of his suspension and, according to Davies, both Daniel Ayala and Sam Hutchinson are a week away from being fully match fit.

Substitute Jamaal Lascelles finished the game playing alongside Elliott Ward and the youngster could be set for his first start, if none of the other players recover.

"Danny lost his vision, which was unfortunate. It was a change we did not want to make, because I wanted to get McGugan on, at some stage," said Davies.

"When he lost his vision, we had no option but to bring young Lascelles on. That gave him some good experience.

"Both Ayala and Hutchinson trained all last week, but they are both probably another week away. Hutchinson is probably further on than Ayala, but it is nice to have them back.

"They will be important players for us, as the season goes on."

Forest had to make two changes at Hillsborough, with Halford suspended and Darius Henderson picking up an injury.

"The two changes did not help us, losing Henderson and Halford. That disrupted us slightly, as we had to change things around," said Davies. "We have to find consistency in our team selection.

"We have a lot of work to do. We have to find quicker wide players. These are long- term projects. In the short term, we are getting maximum effort from the players we have got.

"We have a great spirit in the dressing room, we are working hard on the training ground. We are pleased – but we are not fooled. I have been too long in this game to know that you can only look to the next game and no further beyond that.

"We had Stephen McLaughlin on the bench, it was his first time in the squad, but he is a natural outside left who has a bit of pace about him. He can get balls into the box, he can give us that option."

“No question about it Billy Davies has made an instant impact; performances are even more improved than the results. And this comes off the back of us being on a real low under McLeish.
BUT...we should acknowledge that not all McLeish's judgements were wrong, Giving Lee Camp the boot was a very brave move and one that is coming off as Karl Darlow seems to be on the same wavelength as his back four, unlike the incredible sulk. Credit him, too, for bringing in Jara, who has added solidity and awareness to the back four and is good going forward, Elliot Ward, beginning to look a different player in loan spell number two, and Darius Henderson, who could just be our best target man. Also, the form of his main transfer targets, George Boyd and Chris Burke, suggests he may have got a couple of bargains for us there. Boyd has been in prime form for Posh and now Hull and Burke is among the best players I've seen in the Championship this season.
I wouldn't choose to go back to the ginger Mourinho but he isn't as bad as most folk think.”

“Off the subject a little but what would you guys prefer? Promotion via the play offs this season, or having a cracker next season and winning the championship as champions?

Me personally would like to see Billy build and have a good pre season make some of the loanees perm and have a cracking season next season, normally i would say i would take prem via playoffs but im not so sure that would be good this season as i think we need to settle down, so im saying i would like to win the championship next season and go into the prem as champions, not going to moan though if we did go up via playoffs.”

“This headline is a smokescreen to give McCarthy a false sense of security. I agree with the posters supporting Lascelles. Jamal is a great young prospect who is chomping at the bit to get regularly involved in the first team. The headache is only a short term one with Hutch and Ayala only a week away from match fitness and also Halford will be available for the Hull game. We should coventrate on keeping the ball and better utilising the strikers. We have numerous strike options and once the forwards find their scoring boots we will be a force for the rest of our play off rivals to fear....Keep The Faith!”

“The last thing you want to do when the side is in the form that it's in at the moment is to have to make changes. Fortunately, we do have strength in depth and that will play an important part over the remainder of the season. I suppose we all expect the lads to win every game now that they are going so well. We shouldn't get too carried away with expectations. It's been a funny season. It started off as supposedly a season of consolidation. Then we were doing better that expected so it changed to a push for promotion. Then, after dropping down the table like a stone during the Mcleish period, we were more worried about the bottom 3 that the top 6. Now it seems the promotion push is on again. If it was a film, people would say that it was not believable, unrealistic.

I think that the play-offs are possible this season but it will not only depend on our results and performances but also on others dropping points. To gain the best consistency it takes a settled squad, not just a settled team. That way the starting line-up can be rotated and the players are all used to each other and know what each team-mate is going to do. So, if we have to wait until next season, it could well be a good thing. It wouldn't be a disaster to have a season like Cardiff and be top of the league for the whole season.”

“Those Leicester City figures are really eye-opening - a loss of £27m during a spell when they rocketed from about 9th in the league to 8th! Unbelievable.”
