Nottingham East shortlist announced today
LABOUR'S National Executive Committee was expected to agree a shortlist today from which it will choose a candidate for Nottingham East.
The NEC, the ruling body of the Labour Party, will make its choice after representatives met with city councillors who represent wards in the constituency, with those shortlisted interviewed tomorrow or Wednesday.
The vacancy has arisen because Labour MP John Heppell is standing down.
However, local Labour members accuse the party of seeking to impose a candidate.
Former minister and ex-MP Chris Leslie, has been tipped as Gordon Brown's preferred choice. The local candidates include Coun Jon Collins, leader of the city council, ex leader Coun Brian Parbutt, and executive board member, Coun Jane Urquhart.
