Nottingham City Council to target tax avoiders
NOTTINGHAM City Council will discuss corporate tax avoidance at a meeting on Monday.
Council leader Jon Collins will be putting forward a motion that condemns companies not paying their tax and says they are failing to "meet their social obligations".
-

If it is approved, the council will pledge to do all it can to fight tax avoidance and lobby the Government to introduce legislation against tax havens.
The issue will be discussed at the full council meeting at the Council House at 2pm.

“Neo_Badger....Governing is not easy, which is why it is generally well paid.Public money should be used responsibly at all times and the electorate has every right to comment if they feel that is not the case.A result of the serfs being able to read and write !!”

“...and what we learn from certain posts here, time after time, is that governing is easy. I'd vote for some of you that post here but only on condition that you can prove that you have a clue in the first place.”

“How much of our badly invested money is still awaiting repayment from the Icelandic banks?
I phoned the council finance department for this answer some time ago. When I questioned their figures I was advised to email in so that a more comprehensive answer could be given.I took that as being more time to think of one !!! Everyone should pay their taxes, and everyone should demand that the council use our taxes prudently...not risk them and not waste them on the undeserving.”

“If anyone's interested, here's another fine example of the excellent result of the Conservative controlled Westminster Council implementing housing benefit cuts by accommodating families in 4 star hotels.

“If anyone wants to criticise (and they do deserve it) the City Council, why do they think that it is the preserve of Nottingham to cock it all up?
On defence projects alone, the latest National Audit Office report on the defence budget's top 16 projects has just revealed that they are set to overspend by a little figure of £6.5 billion.
I can't wait for the next round of self-righteous government prigs like Osborne and Pickles, lecturing on financial prudency.”

“Tax evasion is a crime, tax avoidance is a very exact science.”

“perhaps they could also sit down and talk about sending a posse over to Iceland to get our wisely invested taxation monies back too.,”

“So basically they are going to sit around and talk about it.........and then nothing whatsoever will change as a result of this meeting.
The city council had a good idea once.......But it died of loneliness!”

“Multi national corporations have absolutely no social responsibilties at all. They have exatcly the same as we do, ie, tax obligations laid down by law.
If the law is so foolish to allow that sort of dodging, then the law is at fault, and that alone. I'm sure if any of you, legally, were given a choice of paying less tax, you'd jump at it.
What's the old saying, "if it benefits someone else, its called tax avoidance, if it benefits me, its called tax progression".”
