YOU may well have heard them without realising it, as The Kabeedies' track, Come On, was used for the Xbox Kinect TV campaign. But that was four years ago. Since then they've toured with Everything Everything, Darwin Deez, Hurts and CSS and signed to Fierce Panda. They have just released a second album, Soap.

The Kabeedies are Rory (vocals/bass), Fab (drums), Katie (vocals) and Evan (vocals/guitar). Rory introduces the band...

Where are you from?

Many corners of the east but as a band we are based in lovely Norwich.

How did music start for you?

Evan and Katie were in a band together at school that involved a lot of topless guitar solos. I started playing bass at the age of 11. After being in a band for four or five years I took up the invite to audition as The Kabeedies bassist. No one else auditioned so I got the job.

Who were you listening to when you were growing up?

I had a phase as a teenager of refusing to listen to anything past 1985. There was a lot of Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy, mixed in with Nick Drake, Neil Young, Captain Beefheart, Orange Juice, Elvis Costello... then came Sum 41, New Found Glory, Blink 182 and Weezer.

What was the first album or single you ever bought?

The first single I think was Take A Look Around by Limp Bizkit.

Where and when was your first gig and how did it go?

My first gig with The Kabeedies was at a venue in Ipswich which is now a strip club. Classy. It was shambolic.

How would you describe your music?

Fun. That's the main thing. Seriously, pop with Afrobeat and rock'n'roll influences.

Who or what have been your biggest music inspirations?

Collectively in the band I'd say Vampire Weekend, Paul Simon, Metronomy and Let's Wrestle. For me the bass playing on the Paul Simon Graceland album is half incredible and half hilarious but completely inspiring.

Tell us about your latest album

It's still a Kabeedies album, but with some big developments. The energy is still there but with more sombre moments, more strings, more brass, more synths.

What can we expect at your Nottingham gig?

Dancing... and a lot of sweating and shouting.

What experiences have you had of Nottingham in the past?

We've played some really fun shows in Nottingham at the university and the Bodega. Super crowds and good food actually.

The Kabeedies play the Rescue Rooms on Thursday February 23 supported by Nottingham bands Captain Dangerous and Harlikings. Tickets are £6, call 0845 413 4444 or go to www.rescuerooms.com. To listen to their latest tracks go to myspace.com/thekabeedies
