Mansfield's four-match winning run was ended as they were beaten 2-0 at Newport County.

The Exiles would have slipped out of the play-off places for the first time this season if they had been beaten, but two second-half goals saw Justin Edinburgh's side move up to fourth.

Mansfield survived on the half-hour mark as first Christian Jolley and then Danny Crow were denied by strong defensive blocks from Luke Jones and John Dempster inside their own area.

Lee Stevenson went close to an opener for the visitors in the 51st minute as his close-range header was tipped over the bar from Lenny Pidgeley.

The Exiles went ahead in the 66th minute from the penalty spot. Lee Beevers brought down Jolley and Andy Sandell fired into the bottom corner from 12 yards.

And Jolley made it 2-0 with 12 minutes left after breaking through the Stags' backline and clipping the ball past Alan Marriott from inside the area.
