Newell can't hide his disappointment
MICK Newell could not hide his bitter disappointment after
Notts Outlaws blew the chance to extend their lead at the top
-

20crick
of Pro40 Division One last night.
The hosts lost to Durham Dynamos by six runs under the
Duckworth/Lewis method in a tightly-contested thriller that
kept fans of both sides on their edge of their seats.
Notts seemed in control at 134-3 with Mark Wagh at the
crease and 19 needed off 16 balls. But having scored an
unbeaten 50, the player was forced to leave the field with a
shoulder injury and Notts could not get home in the face of
fiery bowling from Steve Harmison.
"What went wrong for us was simple – Mark Wagh retired,"
said Newell.
The result under Trent Bridge's new floodlights means a
number of teams could still win the Pro40 title.

“Very hard luck Notts. The Duckworth Lewis target was very harsh - Notts were set to reach 86% of the Durham total in only 73% of their overs. Durham barely scraped 5 runs an over in their innings, yet Notts had to achieve a run rate of more than 6 to win. A tall order! In their first 25 overs, Durham scored only 124 runs. Notts got 22 runs more than this and still lost. Considering Notts were deprived of FOUR players due to England call ups (ironically, Wednesday's T20 game was abandoned) while their opponents were at full strength, Notts did well to come so close. The unfortunate injury to Mark Wagh when he was in full flow pretty much summed up the county's misfortune on the night. A brave effort by the lads, in difficult circumstances, but all in vain in the end.”
