Newell 'embarrassed' after Notts' lowest first-class score in 22 years
MICK Newell labelled Notts' batting as 'embarrassing' after they were shot out for a County Championship Division One season-low of 59 on the opening day of their clash with title rivals Yorkshire.
The green and golds held a 22-point lead going into this penultimate game at Trent Bridge.

But that lead over Somerset and Yorkshire will most likely be next to nothing going into the final week of the season as five batsmen made ducks in Notts' lowest first-class score for 22 years.
Yorkshire replied with 260-8 to lead by 201 runs.
"It was an important toss to win and we would obviously have had a bowl," said director of cricket Newell.
"Yorkshire bowled outstandingly well in the first session, there was hardly a poor ball.
"There were some good balls that got people out, such as the one that got Adam Voges, but there were also some poor shots.
"59 all out is embarrassing and you can't take much solace from that. It was pretty poor.
"You could say it was our worst under me, but we have probably batted worse on flatter pitches.
"We have generally made recoveries if we have lost early wickets, but we didn't do it this time.
"We need to get 400 in our second innings to get anywhere near making a game of it.
"But we have to bat a lot better than we did first time and with a lot more confidence.
"If the game goes where you would expect, it means there could be eight or nine points between three teams going into the last round of matches."
Charl Willoughby claimed 4-60 as title rivals Somerset bowled out Lancashire for 259 on the opening day of their LV= County Championship clash at Taunton. The home side were 59-1 at the close.

“Try being a Notts CCC fan Mick !
Perennial chokers and bridesmaids.
59 all out for a team of professionals is a disgrace. The team should be ashamed.
Seriously thinking about not renewing my 20 year membership next season.”
