NOTTINGHAM Forest plan to build a new football stadium at Gamston, the Evening Post can reveal.

The new site is included in Nottingham's bid to become a host city in the 2018 World Cup.

The plans will be presented to representatives of the Football Association when they visit the city again today.

The move ends years of speculation about the location of a new stadium.

The World Cup bid, which requires a ground with more than 40,000 seats, has been central to the decision to relocate Nottingham Forest.

Forest, and Nottingham's World Cup bid team, undertook detailed work on a site between Lady Bay and Holme Pierrepont, but this was discounted because it was felt there would be significant opposition. The City Ground could also not be rebuilt to create a stadium big enough to meet the tournament requirements, even with demolition of houses and businesses.

The plan now is to build a new stadium at Gamston as part of a major housing development, which would help pay for it.

It would have capacity for 45,000 fans during the World Cup, but the removal of temporary structures following the tournament would reduce that to 38,000.

The stadium would become the new home of Nottingham Forest and Nottingham's bid team is also proposing it should become the home for women's football in England – a 'Wembley for Women'.

“I live in Gamston.!!!! Keep the stadium where it is. Are Forest going to be footing the bill...don't think so, taking advantage of tax payer.s..again. Just wake up you tw@ts at the council and spend money where it's needed. Hospitals, police, schools...ect.”

“Don't let them do this to your club, you have a great stadium in a fantastic location. As a Luton fan I was shocked on our return to the championship to travel to clubs like Coventry who now watch their football in an isolated, soulless concrete bowl, devoid of passion and atmosphere.

My club is now in the conference thanks to owners who tried to move us to an out-of-town stadium, but we fought them and won. We now have our club back and thats all that really matters.”

“beverley, they will need to get planning permission.

It won't be very good if, having got the bid from the FA we then didn't get planning permission!”

“Ifeel sick at the thought of this I have worked all my life for the very small 170 yr old cottage I live in near the airport end of Tollerton I am very happy here and I hasten to add happy to pay the extotionate council tax for the privelidge. when I moved here it was to get away from estates and the problems thay generate. now it seems I amgoing to have to put up with not only an estate but an ugly football stadium. If I wanted to extend my cottage I would need to obtain planning permission and all my neighbours consulten yet because tis involves making money for some already overly rich businesmen that does not seem to be the case”

“well this is great we are going to be stuck with a ground that generates no atmosphere, that we wont be able to fill miles away from anything usfull

the world cup will bring lots to nottingham but the fans forest will lose because the atmosphere will sound like one man shouting in a cave, why the forest fans should suffer having to watch forest play in a ground with any where from 10000 to 20000 empty seats just so we can have a month of partying, the fact is the (new Ground) will play apart in the WC for a week or two”

“Gamston Forest? It's over 25 miles away. Leave a decent part of the countryside alone. Why should they have to cope with the Forest-Derby thugs beating each other up? If it's meant to attract tourists let them stay in Nottingham and spend their money there.

Sounds like someone's on the take for trying to recommend cheaper land than the existing Forest Ground site. Make them develop it for the benefit of people - not the developers.”

“I have to laugh at the narrow minded people posting on this issue, with unemployment so high the jobs it will create alone are worth it. This is not just about football, it is about a venue which will be a multi-use venue, and will create long term income for the area, and long term jobs. Where is there an issue with green belt land, the posters from Gamston are pure hypocrites living in their houses built on GREEN BELT LAND, but trying to use this as an issue.

This venue is about the future, unlike the current stadium which has no room to expand to cater for the future requirements and needs of sporting venues worldwide.

lets get it built, and if the supposed football fans oppose it, it really shows that they are not fans of football.”

“I stand corrected Magpie, as you give no impression at all. You regularly prove your envious emnity. It is a shame you can't just enjoy the good times at the Lane , rather than obsessing about Forest alongside Nottingham hating D"rby fans. Thankfully most Notts fans have more self confidence and don't feel the need to panic about the Reds all of the time. Good luck to the Pies again and I hope Charlie has all the success possible.”

We do not want more of our greenbelt disappearing.

    THIS MUST BE STOPPED NOW.”
