A NEW scheme in Nottingham will provide opportunities for unemployed young people in facilities management.

During the course participants gained experience in a variety of areas, including reception duties, administration, housekeeping, maintenance and the role of being a 'handyperson'.

UPP teamed up with The Prince's Trust to host 11 unemployed 16 to 25-year-olds, along with the University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and Loughborough University. Accredited training in health and safety, fire safety and first aid were incorporated into the course, with the aim of providing valuable and tangible skills for future work in the facilities management sector.

Training in customer service and interview skills, provided by the University of Nottingham's team, also gave participants a boost in their presentation skills.

At the end of the course, participants gave presentations about their experiences at a celebration event to mark the end of the two-week period.
