A NEW play has been produced explaining the role of healthcare assistants in caring for dementia patients.

The play was based on work at the University of Nottingham, where social scientists have been researching the role of healthcare assistants and what makes a good carer.

These findings were transformed into a play called Inside Out of Mind by theatre company Meeting Ground.

It has been written by Tanya Myers and focuses on seven patients and their carers.

The research was funded by the National Institute for Health Research Service Delivery and Organisation. It found that workers were very skilled and made a distinctive contribution to the lives of dementia patients.

The play was performed at workshops at the Nottingham Playhouse last week.
