New 'bank' needs food deposits

“There seems to be a few regularly quoted misconceptions with regard to the food banks and their role. They are not and have never been solely for the use and support of people who finds themselves dependent on the benefits system for an income, neither are they only patronised by people who began their lives in other parts of the world.
Many hardworking people on low wages are finding their living costs increasing dramatically while the actual value of their meager wages is plummeting. Desperate to cling on to whatever security they have for themselves and their families in the hope that the financial climate and their circumstances will improve they are living under intense pressure and hardship. These people on derisory salaries are having to choose between keeping themselves and their families warm and adequately fed, or paying the mortgage or rent to keep a roof above their heads. If you are fortunate enough that this state of affairs is something you find inconceivable then why not volunteer for a few hours at one of the many food banks? See and hear for yourself the vast range of complicated and protracted reasons that citizens of the fourth wealthiest country in the world are finding themselves in such extreme financial crisis that they rely on a charity to keep themselves and their families fed.
Any anger or resentment should be directed at a government which has totally abdicated from its responsibility to ensure the well-being and security of its people. That this governmental obligation in this first world country is being delivered by the kindness and generosity of those with a social conscience is something to be applauded and praised, not rubbished or ridiculed.”
