NEW Notts Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping has called for a rethink of the controversial move to scrap the Notts Police mounted section.

The decision to disband the unit is being reviewed only two months after it was broken up.

Staff were redeployed and all seven police horses moved to new homes in September. The section was ditched to save £104,000 a year as the force battled to save £42m from its budget under Government cuts.

But the scrapping, approved in June by Notts Police Authority, attracted opposition from the public including a petition signed by more than 2,000 people.

Mr Tipping, left, said: "People have expressed discontent that it has gone and I promised them I'd review the decision and I will."

A report now being drawn up by the force will state what it would cost to reform the unit.

A decision is expected before the end of January.

Former police authority member Alan Street said a U-turn could cost £400,000.

“Teddy, I answered your question in the other thread and you have indicated that you read it. So, why are you posting it again here? Is to prove to readers that, yes, you do have an opposing thumb and forefinger? As to whether I am for or against PCCs, I have to admit that they are now a fact so I will take stock of how they have worked or not worked at some future, as yet unspecified date. I just know that you'll love that answer Teddy!”

“So, Mad Weasel I will repeat the response to your predictable evasiveness on both sites, your answer to my questions is.....'I'm too afraid to answer your questions.' OK, I'll accept that as your umbrella 'answer' to all probing questions. I understand Miliband leaves you in something of a difficult situation. He does try to align himself with every populist stance just to gain a few extra votes. I really don't know from where he gets those Blairite tendencies. Maybe he's been studying Cameron for too long? I'm sure we can both agree with that.”

“No answer then, Mad Weasel? It's much better to state that this is now 'old news' ('old news' being two weeks old) and we need to move on. Very Blairite. So, you are now in favour of PCCs now that Labour is in control? Just checking. Are you now for or against PCCs? Simple question, please give a simple answer.”

“Ted, I have addressed your two 'questions' on the other forum where you have also posted them. What is clear to us all is that you have been disingenuous Ted. You did criticise the Tories for introducing PCCs, but you criticised only Labour for standing. I am surprised that you are bringing this matter up again as it was aleady put to bed s couple of weeks ago. Perhaps you 'forgot' this? Perhaps you have 'forgotten' too that U-Kipper kippers also stood in the elections that you state were a "daft notion", along with any number of independents and others?
Anyhoo Ted, I didn't "scour the entire country in a desperate effort to find information to deflect criticism of your beloved Labour Party". I just googled "deputy pcc" and the Cambs story was on the first page of results. I realise that you are 'on the internet' Ted, but do you know how to do a search? FYI, it's much, much quicker than 'scouring the country' you know.”

“These two and the rest of the PCC's who have employed their cronies make 'benefit scroungers' look totally honest.”

“"THe PCC is already providing an identifiable point of focus when it comes to police policies in Nottingham. Good" -- Nick2812

And how excellent to see that this new-found profile finds them focusing on a key issue for the future of police force in the County, whether or not it keeps horses!

So, no playing to the gallery at all, there.”

“Badger, as you rightly said police horses were used in London and other cities when they were subjected to attack although not petrol bombs. With the escalation of attacks on Police and Police property it is highly probable that future protesters would use their arsenal of weapons against mounted Police. You have only to see how the increase in the use of petrol bombs took place last year.

As regards the reference to a previous article may I mention identity cards. You cast doubts on my having carried identity documents and may now wish to apologise.”

The old police authority was so committed to openess it held public meeting at offices on an industrial estate in Newark.”

“Have you been making complaints about me, Mad Weasel, simply because of the way I address you? How touchy of you. I thought badgers had thicker skins. Perhaps you have a touch of the sniffles, Bovine TB perhaps?

Again your comprehension skills, such as they are, have deserted you. I have criticised both the Tories for their daft notion of creating PCCs and Labour's hypocrisy for participating in the elections. As for other candidates from other parties, I couldn't care less, as they are not in my local area and I know nothing about them. You, on the other hand, scour the entire country in a desperate effort to find information to deflect criticism of your beloved Labour Party.

Answer these two questions, Your Excellency MadBadger, Ruler of Many Sets (is that respectful enough?)

    1. If you had been adviser to Snotty (sorry, I meant His Majesty) Miliband, would you have urged participation in the elections or a boycott?

    2. Do you agree with the way the money is being already being spent by the PCCs of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire?”

“i had to laugh when one of the wouldbe candidates announced they wouldnt be standing over a small matter concerning breaking the law a number of years ago, you would have thought that mr expenses would have also taken the hint,
i guess the trough was just too succulent to resist the snout,”
