POLICE believe a teenage gang who stabbed a man and assaulted another in an unprovoked attack in New Basford are also responsible for damage to vehicles.

The 22-year-old stabbing victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre.

His 20-year-old friend was punched and beaten and sustained a shoulder injury in the attack by a group of around 12 youths, including two girls.

It happened in Sandon Street, at the junction with Nottingham Road, at around 7.20pm on Monday.

The group ran off towards Gawthorne Street.

Police say the group, mostly black and between 15 and 17, have been responsible for damage to vehicles in the New Basford area.

The Post reported last week how residents in and around Sherwood Rise considered all-night vigils to catch those responsible for slashing tyres on more than 25 cars.

A Notts police spokesperson said: "If anyone has seen a group of this size or had their vehicle damaged in this area we want them to come forward.

"We believe there are still a number of incidents that have gone unreported."

On the attack on the two friends, she said: "This was an unprovoked attack.

"This group showed little or no concern for the harm they were causing and it is unclear at the moment as to why they did this. Incidents like this are extremely rare and so we need to catch those responsible.

"We have been speaking to witnesses and are viewing CCTV."
