MATTHEW Myers is glad to be back with Nottingham Panthers, after suffering a nightmare time in the USA last season.

The 25-year-old Cardiff-born forward joins for his sixth season with the club and means Panthers will have ten forwards, with an 11th still to confirm.

Myers – currently working with team captain Danny Meyers on his 19s Landscaping and Building company – thought about a return to the USA.

But his long-time girlfriend Nyree – a former Miss Wales contestant – has a new job in Nottingham.

"I seriously considered going back but it doesn't make sense, with Nyree getting this job" said Myers. "I would have liked to have proved something to myself over there, because it didn't really work out last time.

"I missed four weeks with Bakersfield because of visa issues and then when I got the clearance, I played poorly in the first game and was then always playing catch-up.

"I was a healthy scratch for 25 out of 30 games, so I asked to leave and then joined a struggling Johnstown Chiefs team.

"I started pretty well but then got a concussion. When I returned, I suffered a knee injury and that was it.

"I had a good time travelling-wise, but it was disappointing for me on the ice.

"So it is good to be back and I like the look of the team coach Corey Neilson is putting together."
