Mum tells of firework blaze terror
A MUM and son have been left homeless after a firework smashed through a bedroom window.
Verona Trowers, 52, and her 18-year-old son were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation after the fire on Brewsters Road in St Ann's.
Firefighters tackled the blaze, but the bedroom – including all its contents – were destroyed in the flames.
Emergency services were called to the blaze at around 6.40pm on Wednesday.
Ms Trowers and her son were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre for treatment.
The fire is being treated as suspicious and its cause is being investigated.
Police are now warning that people face arrest for misusing fireworks and anyone who ends up in court can also be issued with a fine of up to £5,000.
On-the-spot fines of £80 can also be given to anyone over 18, and ten to 15 year olds can face £40 fines.
Inspector Andy Rooke, who works in Nottingham City Council's community and neighbourhood protection service, said: "Using fireworks in the right place at the right time makes for an enjoyable and entertaining time, with fun for everyone. However, if fireworks get into the wrong hands, the harm that can be caused is unimaginable.
"We don't want to hear about people that have been injured through fireworks being misused, or damage that has been caused.
"Having the power to issue fines for fireworks offences enables a quick response to be taken and allows us to crack down on the anti-social use of fireworks."

“The situation is getting more and more insane and out of hand. We need more policing or at least cctv up here i think it has gone on long enough.
Fines..... i think they should ban fireworks to the general public all together.... a few days before this incident they were using fireworks to launch at each other.... some people all around watching thier cars and houses being targeted, it literally feels like a war zone, especially with the latest incident which happened last night. not sure what happened, all i know is it was bad.
Do you think we can get the soldier's up here to fight our war???
