Muggers hit man on the head with a metal pole in Clifton street

A MAN needed stitches in his head after he was hit over the head with a metal pole by muggers.

The 19-year-old was approached by three men as he walked along a Clifton street.

One of them asked him the time before demanding to see his watch. A second man then grabbed him around the neck, ordering him to hand over his bag.

When he refused, he was hit twice on the hands with the pole. The victim began to struggle and managed to break free, before running to a nearby house.

As he reached the door, he was struck on the head by the metal pole. The three attackers then fled.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he received stitches to his head. He also had a bruised and swollen hand.

A police spokesman said: "This was a serious, unprovoked attack in a residential street. We urge anyone with information to come forward and help us catch the attackers."

The attempted robbery happened at around 7pm at the junction of Brinkhill Crescent and Woodsford Grove on Wednesday .

One of the muggers is white , aged 20 to 25, 5ft 10in tall and of medium build. He was wearing a light grey hooded top with a blue hat underneath, and grey tracksuit trousers. Another is a also white, 5ft 11in to 6ft tall and slim. He was wearing a dark grey hooded top with white stripes down the arms.

A third man was with them but didn't take part in any violence. The victim was unable to give police a description, as the man was standing behind him throughout the attack.
