IN the first of four competitions on successive Saturdays, Morven Park School, representing Kirkby-in-Ashfield, became Nottinghamshire champions in the ESFA Under-11 Boys' 7-a-sides county final at Sutton Lawns.

They will now represent the county in the Midland Regional Finals to be held in Nottingham during March.

Larkfields, the Eastwood and District champions, were regrettably a late withdrawal leaving seven District champions to contest the county tournament for the Reprotec Shield in a round robin league format.

The tournament was very closely contested, with only two of the 21 matches decided by more than a single goal.

The first two games brought wins for Morven Park and Stanhope (Gedling) over St. Anne's (Bassetlaw) and Newark's Barmby Road respectively.

In the next set of matches, two other sides who were to emerge as strong and difficult opposition could only draw their opening games, West Bridgford Junior and Whitemoor (Nottingham) were held by St. Anne's and Crescent (Mansfield) respectively.

Morven Park's next two games ended in 1-0 wins against Barnby Road and Crescent and although Stanhope had a 2-0 win against Crescent, they then dropped two points in a 1-1 draw with West Bridgford.

In a crucial match, Whitemoor's run of two successive victories was ended by Morven Park who won 2-0 leaving them with a 100 per cent record after four games and damaging the Nottingham school's chances of winning the title themselves.

The Kirkby school stuttered with a 1-1 draw against West Bridgford but confirmed victory in the tournament with a single goal win against nearest rivals Stanhope, who claimed the runner-up spot after a 1-0 win over St.Anne's.

Next Saturday, it will be the turn of the girls to contest the Nottinghamshire Reprotec title at the same venue with the winners again going through to represent Nottinghamshire in the Midlands Regional Final.

The schools taking part are Ambleside (Nottingham), Willow Farm (Gedling), Robert Miles (Rushcliffe), Awsworth (Eastwood and District), Eastlands (Dukeries), Orchard (Kirkby) Ryton Park (Bassetlaw) and Lowes Wong (Newark).

ARNOLD Hill Academy reached the fourth Round of the ESFA U15 National Cup with a 3-1 win over Countesthorpe College (Leicester).

The home side led 1-0 at the break after a deflected free-kick deceived the Arnold Hill keeper.

In a dramatic change, two excellent efforts from Louis Danquah in the first five minutes of the second period put Arnold in the lead and Jordan Ball finished off the game with a 12-yard shot which went in off the post.

Reserve keeper Ben Scott, deputising for Frazer Hampson, was in good form although well protected by Isaac Jackson, Gerard Milano and Caine Wood in the defence.

Their run in the National Cup led to a delay in the Forest Bowl fixtures but Arnold eventually had a straightforward 4-0 win over Alderman White (Chilwell).

Hill's goals came from Oliver Craddock, Ben Hyland (2) and Amrit Samra.

In the two remaining matches in round three, Arnold now entertain Toothill (Bingham) while Carlton-le-Willows meet Nottingham Emmanuel next week.
